Revolution Surfboards
The modern shortboard has
three fins, the trailer fin is for forceful turns, improved tracking, and
projection out of turns. Shortboards have the wide point close to center, wide
tails, and narrow noses. These characteristics make the wide tail loose and
fast, while the three fins hold the board in; the narrow nose offers little
resistance to maneuvering. Fin location, board length, width, and rocker are
designed for various surf conditions.
Funshapes or Eggs are a mix of shortboard and longboard. They
typically range in sizes from 7' to 8'6". These boards catch waves easier than
the shortboard and are more maneuverable than the longboard. Funshapes are
good boards for larger surfers.
The increased length of a longboard helps the board glide
through the water. This allows the surfer to paddle faster and catch waves
easier. Along with catching waves the long rocker makes the longboard maintain
momentum. Thickness and width improve slow speed planing and stability. This
makes the longboard well suited for beginners or small and mushy surf.
